The Sites (1:1000)

3 Sites were given, all located on King Street, in the boho suburb of Newtown.
Site Analysis
Site 1
This site appears to be the ideal site-with its high accesibilty, ample source of lighting, and a modest location wedged in between its surrounding buildings.
Site 2
Site 2 presents a design challenge - to make not just an art gallery but a building of of its own, with 2 facades, ample space and light.
Site 3
This site has most of its light blocked by its adjacent building, thus there would be restrictions in terms of light casting into the potential gallery, as compared to Site 1 and Site 2.
Chosen Site: Site 3
(Facade of Site 3)
(back service lane)
Concept:While taking the site into consideration, I believed that there was a greater need for the building to be sympaphetic to its surrounding buildings. In addition to fulfiling its intended functions stated by the client, I wanted to explore the possible ways that may be used to make passage of light, in time, complement the artworks in the gallery.
Art:
In relation with my concept of light and time, I chose photographic art, sculpture, and video art - three types of artwork which requires different settings of light control.
I imagined that the client would most likely collect artwork from young, upcoming artists. Thus a social form of art should be included as well - theatre art.
